The Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition/Technical Advisory Group (DRCC/TAG) has been a long-term presence in the Duwamish Valley working to provide a way for community members to voice their opinions about the cleanup of the Duwamish River Superfund site. In recent years, the organization’s mission and purpose has evolved to also include work centered on community health and wellbeing. Our population is 42% foreign-/ born, 40% Latino, and more than 70% people of color. Over 70% of residents are low-income, the highest percentage of any health reporting area in King County. This
community long been burdened with a disproportionate amount of pollution – both in and adjacent to the river as well as air pollution.

Our programs are all designed to support the Superfund cleanup, care for the  environment, improve health outcomes, empower commu give voice
to their concerns, develop skills, and, for youth, to begin pathways to jobs and higher education. As well, we develop and staff them depending almost completely on community prioritization. A donation from 100 Women Who Care Greater Seattle giving circle would go towards our Duwamish Valley Youth Corps, a youth engagement program focusing on environmental justice and job skills. Youth receive environmental and social justice education, conduct hands-on projects in the community and gain communication and leadership skills. The Youth Corps provides a critical pathway towards goals of education and employment for the youth participants. Should we receive funding from 100 Women Who Care, we could pay for stipends for 8 extra
youth this year (for context, we usually serve about 25 youth per 12-week cohort but at our January cohort over 80 youth showed up, hoping to be included!), we could pay for three river boat tours (one per cohort to show our youth the natural beauty as well as the industrial pollution in the Duwamish Valley) and with the final $1900 we could ensure that we are serving quality snacks and meals at classes and work days attended
